COVID19 - EPIDEMIC TO PANDEMIC
Raj Gopalakrishnan gave us the history (so far) of COVID19. Raj supported his speech with a colorful - and sometimes humorous - slide presentation. He compared this outbreak with the Spanish Flu from 1918. By comparing Philadelphia and Atlanta during that period, he was able to show the benefits of social distancing. A timely and well informed presentation.
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT ....
Toilet paper! Ilene Kulk gave us the history of toilet paper, and the many substitutes that went back to ancient civilizations. We learned that Ancient Romans used a sponge on a stick. After it's use it was placed back in a pail of vinegar where it awaited the next user. The next time your local market has a shortage on toilet paper, remember that you may use rags, wood shavings, leaves, grass, hay, stones, sand, moss, water, snow, ferns, plant husks, fruit skins, seashells, or corncobs. We also learned that August 26 is National Toilet Paper day.
