Topiary & Huck It

THE ART OF HERBAL TOPIARY

Basil plant

Kate Tiernan shared her passion for indoor herbal topiaries. While many people grow herbs in small pots, Kate takes it to a new level by grooming and shaping her plants. They take constant attention, which requires special arrangements when Kate has to leave home for a few days. She told the sad story of leaving her herbs at work, only to have the plants die due to mishandling. Even so, she encouraged all of us to try this method for home grown herbal goodness.

HUCK IT FOR HOUSING

Curtis Edwards told us about Korazon, which is a non-profit homeownership community project. It is a joint venture with Housing Works of Central Oregon and will be offering five attainable, goal zero-energy homes in 2020. The homes in this community are 2-bedroom, 2-bath, 1,100 square feet. The community is a cluster cottage style with perimeter common shared grounds. A fundraising event has local high school students building pumpkin throwing machines.
